Wolverine Open - 1/31/2026
The Sacramento City College women's wrestling team delivered a strong showing at the Sierra College Wolverine Open, finishing second overall in a competitive 10-team field. The Panthers were consistent across the lineup, stacking quality performances and podium finishes throughout the day to secure the runner-up team result. With the 2nd place finish, the Panthers were the highest placing 3C2A team in the field, one spot behind Umpqua Community College of Oregon from the NJCAA.
Sac City was led by championship efforts from Karissa McDaniel and Ruby Lopez-Paz. McDaniel dominated the 103-pound bracket, going 4-0 on the day and capturing the title in emphatic fashion. She also earned the tournament's award for most pins in the least amount of time, recording four falls in just 2 minutes and 59 seconds. At 138 pounds, Lopez-Paz went a perfect 3-0 to claim her weight-class championship and add key team points.
Additional standout performances helped solidify the Panthers' team finish. Veronica Shayhan advanced to the finals at 160 pounds and placed second, while Edith Cortes (110) and Brenaye Stubbs (131) earned third-place finishes. Anna Reed rounded out the scoring with a fourth-place result at 124 pounds. The Panthers will look to build on their momentum when they return to the mat at the Sac City Open at home on February 14.
