Panthers Battle to 3rd-Place Finish at 2026 Sac City Open; Aguilar-Cuavas voted Most Outstanding Upper-Weight after Championship performance
The Sacramento City College women's wrestling team turned in a strong home performance at the 2026 Sac City Open. The Panthers earned a third-place team finish in a 18-team field, featuring a mix of 3C2A, NCAA, NAIA, and NCWA programs. Leading the charge was Paula Aguilar-Cuavas, who won the 207 pound bracket to claim the individual championship. Aguilar-Cuavas' commanding performance throughout the day also earned her the honor of Most Outstanding Upper Weight award, voted on by all of the Head Coaches of the teams represented in the tournament. At 235 pounds, Grace Mercado powered her way to a second-place finish, delivering key team points in the upper weights. The Panthers also saw strong performances from Karissa McDaniel, who placed fourth at 103 pounds, and Brenaye Stubbs, who secured fourth place at 131 pounds after battling through a competitive field. Adding to the team's depth, Kelly Meehan earned fifth place at 145 pounds.
